Pallo Overview
Pallo is the first all-in-one personal and business finance application designed specifically for the self-employed. This means that Pallo caters to the financial needs of individuals who work for themselves – from those with outside employment and a side-hustle, to full-time freelancers, to owners of one or more small businesses. The company eliminates the need for multiple subscriptions and tools, saving both money and the hassle of managing various applications.
The Problem
Pallo Company identified that their target users, self-employed individuals, often struggle with accounting and tax management, leading to potential financial errors and compliance issues. The goal at the stage was to deliver the product to the market as soon as possible.
The Goal
The goal of a company that uses extended teams to speed up development typically includes several key objectives:
- Accelerated Time-to-Market. The company wanted to reduce the development cycle and bring product to market more quickly.
- Increased Productivity. The inhouse tech team wanted to focus on the core of the product and increase the overall productivity of the development process.
- Access to Specialized Skills. The client requested specialized technical skills that was not be available in-house, enhancing the quality and innovation of the development.
- Scalability: Extended teams provide the flexibility to scale up or down based on project needs, allowing the company to adapt quickly to changing demands without the long-term commitment of permanent hires.
The Product
The product is a user-friendly mobile app that empowers self-employed individuals to manage their accounting and tax-related tasks efficiently. Pallo product offers visibility across one or more businesses and personal finances, enabling the management of a wide range of financial tasks in a single product. It includes features such as:
- budgeting for all aspects of life;
- accounting and bookkeeping capabilities;
- invoicing;
- mileage tracking;
- time tracking;
- receipt management, and more.
Additionally, Pallo provides tools that help find and maximize tax deductions, file taxes, and gain valuable insights and recommendations regarding overall financial situations.
Our Role
As software engineers on the external team, our role was to contribute to the development of the mobile app using React Native. We collaborated with the in-house Pallo team, designers, and product managers to ensure the successful integration of the app into their existing ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Our team responsibilities as part of the product engineering team include:
- Participating in requirements analysis and translating user stories into technical specifications.
- Collaborating with the design team to ensure a seamless and visually appealing user interface.
- Implementing core functionalities of the app, such as expense tracking, income management, and tax calculations.
- Conducting rigorous testing to identify and resolve any bugs or performance issues.
- Integrating the app with backend APIs and databases for seamless data synchronization.
- Assisting in the app’s deployment and contributing to app store submissions.
Project Duration
The project is estimated to be completed within 12 months. However the first version was completed in 10 months which provided for the client a possibility to release it to market earlier than expected and get the first real feedback from the users in order to continue the development of the second phase and bring more value for the end customers.
The Impact and Learnings
Through the successful implementation of the mobile app, Pallo Company achieved increased user adoption, higher customer satisfaction, and improved brand recognition in the self-employed market. The collaboration with the external software engineering team proved valuable, leveraging their expertise in React Native and accelerating the app’s development.
