The WWDC Apple event of 2024 came with a lot of new exciting changes like the long awaited Apple Intelligence (finally!), a smarter Siri and other improvements to the iOS we know and love. You might even say it feels a lot like Christmas came early.
Lots of blogs have already given us the Google I/O 2024 highlights so here’s the Apple keynote for the WWDC 2024.
Let’s look at the key moments for each one starting with the one everyone has been waiting for.
#1 Apple Intelligence and a Partnership with OpenAI
The biggest announcement this year by far. After dragging its feet for ages, Apple has finally unveiled their AI strategy. Apple Intelligence, iOS own version of the generative AI is set to change the way we interact with our devices — making it better. You can use it to:
- Edit and clean up photos,
- Generate message replies, draft emails and create new emojis
- Summarize texts
- Reduce distractions in focus modes,
- Transcribes voice notes and more
Apple is also going into partnership with OpenAI to make some of these features possible. For those worried about data protection, the Apple AI ChatGPT deal introduces a new approach to AI privacy.
To protect users privacy, your data will not be stored and will only be used to process your requests.
The Apple Intelligence will only be available in the US for now, and only in English.
Everyone else will have to wait for autumn. Also, developers will be able to build smart chips into their apps.
#2 Siri Gets a Makeover
The new Siri is also getting Apple’s generative AI capabilities which makes it so much more able to process requests in a natural, clear language. It can perform more on-device requests while using information across apps.
But wait, there’s more. Not only was Siri revamped inside but it also got a new look — neat icon with glowing indicator lights around your device edges.
#3 iOS 18 New Features
The iOS 18 gives you more control options and customization abilities with the new widgets and toggle switches in the control center.
Also, you can now change icons and pick your own colors for them. Plus your iPhone now has even more enhanced security features with the ability to lock access to apps with Face ID or password.
A new feature called Tap to Cash, now lets you send money or pay for stuff by tapping your phone with another iPhone. The improved photos app now has a more cleaner sorting system for your pictures library.
The iMessage app also got new reactions and Genmoji enabling you to express yourself more in conversations. Also, you can now send messages via satellite similar to the SOS feature.
Last but not least, the mail also has new categorization options. And calls can now be recorded and transcribed.
#4 MacOs Sequoia
Coming on this OS is the ability to mirror your iPhone. Not just to look at but also assess some data stored on your phone and control it right from the Mac. So this makes it easier for editors and developers to get a real feel for how their creations would look and work on the iPhone.
You also have cool improvements to look forward to like:
- Scenes in freeform,
- Math notes
- Redesigned reader
- Easier window tiling
#5 iPad OS
Apple announced a new smart script feature in the notes app which recognizes your own handwriting and recreates it so it looks smoother as you write.
The iPad will be spotting a new calculator soon and it comes with inbuilt math notes (just like the MacOS Sequoia. You can write down a math problem or formula and AI in the math notes solves it for you.
#6 VisionOS 2.0
The visionOS will now offer a more immersive experience. AI will transform 2D photos to 3D creating spatial photos that are more enjoyable to look at. The visionOS will also be spotting new gesture controls, new virtual display enhancements and more.
Apple also added new gesture controls, motion gestures and lots of changes inside the device.
The Apple vision will be coming to more countries starting with China, Japan and Singapore on June 28 and Australia, Canada, France, etc. on July 12th.
So there you have it. Keep in mind that this Apple Keynote is a brief summary of the major features. Stay posted for a more in depth look at the new exciting features.
