Project Description
This chatbot provides mental health advice to assist individuals struggling with depression. Created in collaboration with several expert therapists from the U.S., this chatbot can figure out how users feel, monitor their moods, try to cheer them up, and even connect them with a qualified therapist for personalized guidance. By blending compassionate design with cutting-edge technology, this healthcare chatbot aims to make mental health support accessible, anonymous, and personalized.
The Challenge
Depression remains a major cause of concern for individuals and health systems worldwide. It can be a debilitating mental health condition that affects many people. As proof, the World Health Organization statistics show that more than 280 million people of all ages suffer from depression globally.
Despite its prevalence, seeking help and support can be difficult, especially for those who are cautious. This is because most people find it difficult to overcome barriers like stigma. Lack of awareness and inadequate mental health infrastructure are also some of the obvious challenges.
North South Tech’s client sought an accessible and scalable solution that addresses these concerns. The platform, anonymous in nature, utilizes technology to offer personalized mental health support and guidance, facilitating a smooth transition to professional therapy when necessary. The goal of this project was clear: reduce barriers to seeking care and create a warm, inviting platform to guide users on their journey to better mental health.

Discovery
In-depth research into the future of chatbots in healthcare laid the bedrock for this project. We conducted an extensive market study to understand the existing landscape of mental health apps and chatbots. It focused on market trends, user behaviors, and the strengths and weaknesses of existing mental health chatbots. In collaboration with mental health experts, the team identified their core needs and a few key pain points when seeking support for depression.
